Cloud migration services in Coimbatore without stopping the business

For Coimbatore manufacturers, exporters and service firms still running the business on a server in the back office: we move Tally, file shares, ERP and internal apps to an Indian cloud region, with a tested way back at every step.

What cloud migration means for a Coimbatore business

Cloud migration services in Coimbatore usually mean moving the server in your office (Tally or another accounting system, shared folders, an ERP or a few internal apps) to AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud in an Indian region. Done well, it starts with an inventory and a cost comparison, moves one low-risk workload first, keeps the old server as a fallback, and schedules the final cutover away from month-end and GST filing dates.

Cloud migration in Coimbatore

The server in the back room is a business risk, not just an IT one

Walk into many Coimbatore factories and trading offices and you find the same set-up: one tower server or a desktop doing a server’s job, running Tally, the shared drive and perhaps an ERP, backed up to an external disk that someone takes home on Fridays. It works until the disk fails, the UPS gives out during a long outage, ransomware encrypts the shared drive, or the person who set it up leaves. This page is about cloud migration services in Coimbatore for exactly that estate.

We are not selling cloud for its own sake. Some workloads should stay where they are: machine controllers on the shop floor, a CCTV recorder, anything that must keep working when the internet line is down. The job is to sort your systems into “move”, “replace with a subscription” and “keep on site, but back up properly”, then move the first group without missing a day of invoicing.

Radiatus delivers this remotely, through our cloud & infrastructure practice, and can run the result afterwards under managed services. We have no Coimbatore office; site visits for an inventory walk-through or the cutover weekend are arranged by agreement. If what you need is new software rather than new infrastructure, our custom software and AI page for Coimbatore is the better starting point.

Coimbatore context

What is different about migrating a Coimbatore business

The estate is small but busy. A typical Coimbatore MSME has one to three servers, a dozen to a few hundred users and very little documentation. The server often grew over the years: Tally first, then a shared drive, then a small ERP or a vendor’s dispatch software, then remote access bolted on for the owner. The first week of any migration here is spent writing down what actually runs, who uses it and which of it nobody will miss.

Accounting drives the calendar. Invoices, e-way bills and GST returns cannot wait for an IT project. Most clients we talk to want the switch-over on a weekend early in the month, after returns are filed and before the next dispatch rush, and they want the old server left untouched for a few weeks afterwards. We plan around your filing dates, your auditor’s visits and festival-season dispatch peaks, not around our convenience.

Tally has its own rules. Tally Solutions offers its own hosted service, TallyPrime Cloud Access (formerly TallyPrime on AWS), which its help pages say is hosted in India on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and AWS for Indian licence owners. If you run TallyPrime on your own cloud server instead, remote use over RDP or similar counts as virtual usage under Tally’s Tally Virtual User (TVU) licensing: Silver licences include one TVU, Gold licences ten, and more can be bought. Tally also says a hosted licence must match the geography of use and may be shared only between branches of the same business entity. We check your licence before we design anything.

The nearest regions are close. Microsoft Azure’s South India region is in Chennai, AWS runs regions in Mumbai and Hyderabad, and Google Cloud has regions in Mumbai and Delhi, so a Coimbatore office can reach any of them with low latency and keep data in India. The bigger factor is your own internet line: if the office relies on one connection, a second line from a different provider, or a mobile-data router as fallback, is part of the migration plan, not an optional extra.

Your customers are asking too. Export buyers and OEM customers increasingly send supplier security questionnaires: where is our data, who can access it, how are backups tested. A cloud estate with named accounts, logs and restore tests answers those far better than a tower server under a desk. If certification is the goal, our ISO 27001 readiness work builds on the same foundations.

What moves where

What usually moves, what gets replaced and what stays

A typical Coimbatore MSME estate, sorted. Your list will differ; the inventory decides.

WorkloadUsual decisionHow it typically moves

How a cloud migration in Coimbatore actually runs

Every migration we run follows the same five stages. The order matters more than the tools: skipping the inventory or the pilot is how projects end up rolling back in a panic on a Monday morning.

  1. Inventory. Every server, application, database, shared folder, scheduled job and integration, with who uses it and when. We also record the licences (Windows Server, SQL Server, Tally, ERP) because licensing often decides the design.
  2. Decide per workload. Move as-is, move and improve, replace with a subscription, keep on site, or retire. One decision per line, agreed with you in writing.
  3. Build the landing zone. The cloud account or subscription, network, identity with multi-factor sign-in, backups, logging and cost alerts, before a single workload arrives.
  4. Pilot one low-risk workload. Often the shared drive or a reporting app. It proves the network path, the sign-in and the backup restore with real users.
  5. Cut over the rest in waves. Each wave has a date, a rollback plan, a list of people to test it and a sign-off. The old server stays powered but read-only until you are confident.

Which migration strategy fits each workload?

AWS’s prescriptive guidance names seven strategies, often called the 7 Rs. The same thinking applies on Azure and Google Cloud. For a Coimbatore MSME, three of them do most of the work.

StrategyWhat it meansWhen it fits a Coimbatore business
RetireSwitch it offThe old attendance or reporting app nobody has opened since a staff member left
RetainKeep it where it is, for nowShop-floor systems, CCTV recorders and anything that must run when the internet is down
RehostMove the server as it is (“lift and shift”)A vendor ERP or an internal app that works today and that you cannot change quickly
RelocateMove a whole virtualised platform without changing itRare at MSME scale; relevant only if you already run VMware clusters
RepurchaseReplace with a subscription productEmail, file sharing, sometimes the accounting or ERP system itself
ReplatformMove with small changes, such as a managed databaseAn internal app whose database you are tired of patching and backing up yourself
RefactorRebuild parts to use cloud services properlyLater, for an app that has become central to the business; see our modernization work

Most first migrations here are a mix of retire, repurchase and rehost. Refactoring is worth it only after the business has run on the cloud for a while and knows which system deserves the investment.

Is cloud cheaper than a new server for a small business?

Sometimes, and not always. Anyone who promises savings before looking at your estate is guessing. Compare five years of each, line by line, using your own quotes:

Cost lineServer refresh in the officeCloud in an Indian region
HardwareServer, storage, UPS and a spare disk, paid upfrontNone; replaced by a monthly compute and storage bill
Software licencesWindows Server and SQL Server bought once, plus Tally and ERPWindows and SQL can be rented with the server or brought under licence terms; Tally TVUs as needed
BackupsDisks, a NAS, someone to rotate them and test restoresSnapshots and backup storage billed per GB, with copies in a second region
Power and coolingElectricity, UPS batteries, the AC in the server roomIncluded
InternetNeeded mainly for remote usersBecomes critical: budget a second line or mobile-data failover
Support and patchingLocal vendor visits, on-site AMCRemote patching and monitoring, by your team or a provider
Downtime riskHardware failure, theft, flooding, ransomware on a flat office networkProvider-level redundancy; your configuration and backups still matter

Two rules keep the cloud side honest. First, size servers on measured usage, not on the old box’s specification; most office servers are idle most of the day. Second, switch off what you do not need outside working hours and buy longer-term commitments only for the steady baseline, after a month or two of real numbers. Our FinOps playbook explains both, and our CloudMonitor dashboard shows the spend once you are running.

AWS, Azure or Google Cloud for a Coimbatore office?

All three run regions in India, all three are fine for an MSME estate, and the choice usually follows what you already use rather than any technical gap.

If this describes youLean towardsWhy
Staff already use Microsoft 365, Windows file shares and Active DirectoryMicrosoft Azure (South India region, Chennai)Identity, file migration and Windows licensing fit together; the nearest region is in Chennai
Your ERP vendor or software partner already deploys on AWSAWS (Mumbai or Hyderabad)Vendor support and existing scripts carry over; two Indian regions allow backup copies in a second city
You run on Google Workspace and want minimal serversGoogle Cloud (Mumbai or Delhi)Fewer moving parts if most of the estate becomes Workspace plus one or two servers
Tally is the main system and little else needs a serverPossibly none of themTally’s own hosted service may be simpler; compare it before building anything

Whichever you pick, the account belongs to you, the bill comes to you, and we work inside it with named access you can revoke.

Cutover planning around GST, dispatch and festival peaks

The technical move is the easy part. The risk is timing. Before we set a cutover date we ask for:

  • Your GST return dates and when your accountant needs the books, so no cutover lands in the week returns are prepared.
  • E-invoice and e-way bill flows: which system generates them, and a test that the new set-up can still reach the government portals before go-live.
  • Dispatch peaks, including festival seasons and any export shipment deadlines.
  • Audit visits and year-end closing; we avoid the last weeks of March entirely.
  • Who will test on the Monday morning, from which branches, and who decides on a rollback.

The rollback plan is written before the cutover, not during it: the old server stays read-only and powered for an agreed period, the data copy method is reversible, and the decision point (“by 11 a.m. Monday, or we switch back”) is agreed in advance.

Security and compliance after the move

Moving to the cloud does not make anything secure by itself. A server with an open remote-desktop port is as easy to break into in Mumbai as in Peelamedu. Every migration we run includes:

  • Named user accounts with multi-factor sign-in; no shared “admin” login.
  • Remote access through a VPN or a broker, never RDP open to the internet.
  • Backups with copies in a second region or account, and a restore test before go-live.
  • Logs kept in India for the rolling 180 days that the CERT-In directions of April 2022 expect, and a note of who to call if something goes wrong.
  • Personal data of customers and staff mapped, so you are ready for India’s DPDP obligations; our DPDP checklist covers the dates.

If your customers require a penetration test of the new set-up, our VAPT team can test it before you answer their questionnaire.

What about migration funding from AWS?

AWS runs the Migration Acceleration Program (MAP), which can fund part of a qualifying migration. It is delivered through AWS’s own professional services and its migration partners. Radiatus is independent and not part of AWS’s partner programmes, so we cannot apply for MAP funding on your behalf. For a typical MSME estate the amounts involved rarely change the decision, but if your migration is large enough for funding to matter, ask a listed partner too and compare the full proposal, not just the credit.

Questions to ask any cloud migration company in Coimbatore

  1. Will you do a written inventory before quoting the migration itself?
  2. Which workloads would you not move, and why?
  3. Whose cloud account will this run in, and who receives the bill?
  4. How will Tally be licensed after the move, and have you checked our licence?
  5. What is the rollback plan for each cutover, and how long does the old server stay available?
  6. How will remote users connect, and is any remote-desktop port open to the internet?
  7. When will the first backup restore be tested, and will we see it?
  8. What happens if our office internet line goes down?
  9. Who runs and patches the servers after go-live, and at what cost?
  10. What documentation do we get at the end?

Our page on AWS managed services in India covers the running costs and responsibilities after go-live in more detail.

Services

Cloud migration services for Coimbatore businesses

Four pieces of work. Most clients take the first two together; the others follow once the business is running on the new set-up.

Migration assessment

The problem

You know the server is ageing, but not what runs on it, what it would cost in the cloud, or whether moving is worth it at all.

How we do it

A remote inventory (with a site visit by agreement), interviews with the people who use each system, a decision per workload and a five-year cost comparison using your own quotes. You can stop there and act on it yourself.

What you get

  • Written inventory of servers, apps and data
  • Move, replace, keep or retire decision per workload
  • Five-year cost comparison
  • Risks and a proposed wave plan
Timeline

A typical Coimbatore migration timeline

FAQ

Questions about cloud migration in Coimbatore

An inventory of what runs on your servers, a decision for each workload (move, replace with a subscription, keep on site or retire), a cost comparison, building the cloud foundation in your own account, a pilot migration, planned cutovers with rollback plans, and either a handover to your team or ongoing managed support. Radiatus delivers remotely, with site visits by agreement.

Yes. Tally Solutions offers its own hosted service, TallyPrime Cloud Access, which it says is hosted in India for Indian licence owners. Alternatively TallyPrime can run on your own cloud server, accessed remotely under Tally Virtual User licensing; Silver includes one TVU and Gold includes ten. We check your licence and compare both options before choosing.

Yes, if you want it to. Microsoft Azure has a region in Chennai, AWS has regions in Mumbai and Hyderabad, and Google Cloud has regions in Mumbai and Delhi. We place servers, backups and logs in Indian regions and keep backup copies in a second Indian region where the provider allows it.

For an MSME with one or two servers and up to a hundred users, roughly six to ten weeks from inventory to the final cutover is common in our planning, most of it spent on inventory, testing and choosing safe dates. Larger estates take longer because they need more migration waves, not because the technology is harder.

Not always. Compare five years of each: hardware, licences, backups, power, internet, support and the cost of downtime. Cloud usually wins when you have branches or remote users, poor backups, or hardware near end of life. It loses when servers are oversized or left running unused, so we size on measured usage.

Systems in the cloud keep running, but your office cannot reach them until the connection returns. That is why the plan includes a second internet line from a different provider or a mobile-data router as fallback, and why we keep shop-floor systems that must run offline on site.

It should not. We schedule cutovers on weekends away from your return dates, year-end and dispatch peaks, test e-invoice and e-way bill generation before go-live, and keep the old server available read-only for an agreed period so you can switch back if anything is wrong.

Yes. We work remotely with businesses in Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode and the rest of Tamil Nadu, and with teams elsewhere in India. Site visits for an inventory walk-through or a cutover weekend are arranged by agreement.
